John Wilson is a BACP Accredited Counsellor who has worked part-time
as a bereavement counsellor and trainer for seven years, at the
Bereavement Support Service, Saint Catherine's Hospice, Scarborough.
This service is Community based and receives referrals for clients
bereaved from any cause of death. This seminar is grounded in theory but
supported by the experiences of over 500 bereaved people that John has
met and assessed since he began specialising in bereavement. As well
as these 500+ one-hour initial assessments, John has gone on to work
regularly with well over 100 bereaved clients, some of whom have
received counselling on a long term basis.John has worked with clients
bereaved by terminal illness, substance abuse, sudden infant deaths,
sudden deaths from natural causes, natural disaster, industrial accidents, suicide, murder,
and road traffic accidents. He is clear that this is the most wonderful and rewarding job he has
had in a long career, and is keen to share this experience with others.

John previously worked as a student counsellor in West Yorkshire. He has lectured in Higher
and Further Education since 1989. Since 1998 he has taught counselling up to diploma and
degree level.

Married to Sandra, they have five children between them; the youngest is at University. Sandra
and John share their house and garden with three cats.
John maintains a small private practice of clients and supervisees, working from an
eco-friendly garden room he designed and built himself.
Sandra Wilson has spent most of her professional life working with and
for people as an educator and trainer in Further Education and as a
Provider and Manager of Social Care Services for vulnerable adults.
She also took time out to raise two boys and to work a smallholding.

She is qualified as a teacher, an NVQ assessor and in the delivery and
Management of Care Services.
